Ex-Jets star Al Toon’s daughter killed in apparent homicide-suicide, police say

Authorities said the daughter of former New York Jets star Al Toon was killed in an apparent suicide attempt in Arizona.

Molly Lillard, 28, has been identified as the victim of a shooting in Scottsdale, and her husband, Royce Lillard III, has been identified as the gunman who was locked in a house with his wife, police said. According to the Arizona Republic, Royce Lillard was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Molly Lillard was taken to a hospital and later died from her injuries, the newspaper reported. Police said the couple’s eight-month-old child was present at the shooting but not injured.

Molly Lillard excelled in high school volleyball in Wisconsin before playing in Michigan. He earned two all-conference picks and led her team twice to state playoffs.

“I coached her before high school in a club season and then four years in high school,” former Lillard coach Franco Marcos told the Wisconsin State Journal on Monday. “Knowing the family and Al is really hard to hear such a story. … It’s sad. I really do not know what to say. It’s such a tragic loss and how it happened. ‘

Tone was the Jets’ number 10 pick in the 1985 draft. He played eight seasons with the Jets, and he recorded 517 catches for 6,605 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was nominated for the Pro Bowl three times and was an All-Pro First Team pick once.
