Everyone can now get a home COVID-19 test – and your insurance can pay for it – BGR

  • As the coronavirus continues to grow in the US, it is important that people plan to come with family and friends to get tested.
  • Home COVID-19 test kits are becoming commonplace and can even be covered under standard health insurance plans.
  • Coronavirus test kits currently require a nose swab, but Bill Gates believes less invasive options will be available in 2021.

It has never been so easy to do a COVID-19 test, which is good news as the coronavirus pandemic is worse today than it ever was. One of the reasons why the coronavirus is increasing is indeed because people who have the virus and are relatively asymptomatic can unknowingly spread it to someone they come in contact with. In light of this, and with the Christmas holidays behind us, many health experts fear that January could be the worst month of the entire pandemic.

Simply put, if you have been hanging out with people outside of your toddler or if you are planning, the smart step to get tested is whether or not you have experienced any symptoms. The good news is that COVID tests at home are plentiful and relatively straightforward to use.

One home COVID testing option comes from LabCorp. The company has a home collection kit with a nose swab. All you have to do is send the swab sample back to the company, and they will let you know if it is positive for COVID-19. The company notes that the average waiting time for the results is about 1-2 days after the sample is returned. It is also worth mentioning that LabCorp works 7 days a week

What makes LabCorp’s test option so appealing is that you can use your health insurance when placing your order.

The website notes:

Please note that prepayment is not required to obtain a kit. Federal legislation enacted in March 2020 requires comprehensive private health insurance plans to cover this test and provide funds for reimbursement to providers for COVID-19 testing for uninsured patients. If you prefer to pay out of pocket, you prefer not to claim compensation through this mechanism.

When you place an order, LabCorp will take down your insurance information to streamline the entire process.

If you do not have insurance, or if your service provider does not cover it, LabCorp’s test kit costs $ 119, which is very expensive. But do not worry, there are other home test kits available as well. As we discussed earlier this month, Walmart and Sam’s Club now also sell coronavirus test kits that cost only $ 99, depending on the type of shipping option you choose. What’s more, these sets contain a telehealth call in cases where someone does test positive for COVID-19.

Walmart’s COVID-19 test kit can be purchased here, while Sam’s’ coronavirus test kit can be found here.
