MTA introduced the contactless payments for the first time last May, but the technology took more than a year and a half to get the transit system in New York. During that time, MTA saw more than 35 million cranes with OMNY, said Al Putre, executive director of MTA, a press conference today. According to him, the next goal is to bring OMNY to the New York railways and introduce contactless OMNY cards, including lower rate cards, to bring the functions of OMNY on the same level as the current MetroCard offerings.
