Etsy removes ‘Camp Auschwitz’ shirt from his website

The Etsy spokesman told CNN Business that an e-commerce company immediately removed the item when he learned that the shirt was for sale and banned the store that listed it. “Items that glorify hatred or violence have no place on Etsy and we are committed to keeping our market safe,” the spokesman said.

“At Etsy, we know that democracy is the foundation of civil society and recognize that it needs to be nurtured and protected,” Etsy CEO Josh Silverman said in a blog post. “In times of unrest, it is more important than ever that we be vigilant and do our part to keep our market and community safe,” he added.

The company said it was constantly monitoring its market for offers possibly inspired by recent unrest, but it was unclear why the anti-Semitic shirt was on sale on the e-commerce site in the first place.

The Auschwitz Memorial tweeted a photo of the offensive and hate-provoking item and said: “@Etsy, please remove it. It is painful for survivors and disrespectful to the memory of all victims of Auschwitz.”
Hours later, in a try to apologize, the e-commerce company responded to the tweet, saying: “Etsy stands firm against any form of hate. We have immediately removed the list and banned the store that tries to sell it, and is aggressively monitoring such items and remove what we are violating. policy. Thank you @AuschwitzMuseum for bringing this to our attention. ”

The Auschwitz Museum thanks the company for its prompt response and removal of the article.
