ESPN: Many NBA players reject request to promote COVID-19 vaccine

Many of the most popular players of the National Basketball Association reject requests to promote vaccinations against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19, ESPN reported with unknown players and agents.

The NBA’s invitation to many of the league’s most famous players to encourage the general public to be vaccinated through public service announcements, or PSAs, and in other ways was “answered with a lukewarm response”, reports ESPN .

Agents and players said the resistance was in line with the general skepticism about the vaccine among American blacks, which according to one survey expressed only 38% confidence.

Last season, the blacks were 74% of the NBA teams.

Besides being careful to take it on themselves, the reasons for the reluctance are its use for others and the hostility towards the league over the All-Star Game, against which LeBron James, forward of the Los Angeles Lakers, has spoken out.

Thirty NBA games this season have been postponed due to positive tests for the new coronavirus, contract tracking protocols and teams that do not have enough players for games due to the restrictions.

Commissioner Adam Silver said during a conference call to general managers of the league’s teams on Tuesday that the NBA could “encourage” teams and individuals to take the vaccine and promote it with the weakening of test protocols and quarantine rules, ESPN said, referring to its anonymous sources.
