Error Reporting Boone County Vaccine Distribution

BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The West Virginia National Guard has issued a statement regarding an error in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine in Boone County.

According to the WVNG, the error resulted in 42 people receiving the Regeneron antibody product instead of the Moderna vaccine.

Officials say the people received the antibody product at a vaccination clinic offered by Boone County Health Department staff.

The WVNG says medical experts with the Joint Interagency Task Force do not believe the 42 individuals could pose a danger.

No other people got the antibody instead of the vaccine in West Virginia.

None of the other vaccines before yesterday or before are affected by this.

According to the National Guard, vaccination-related protocols have been reviewed and strengthened.

According to officials, 7,855 West Virginiaers were vaccinated across the state on Wednesday.

“The moment we were notified of what had happened, we acted immediately to rectify it. We immediately reviewed and strengthened our protocols to improve our distribution process to prevent it from happening again,” said Genl. .maj. James Hoyer, adjutant general, said. of the West Virginia National Guard. “I remain incredibly proud of everything our team has accomplished. Our biggest goal was to save lives, and as we continue to increase the spread of the vaccine across the state, we continue to save more and more lives every day. ”

“The product administered is antibodies that fight COVID-19,” said Dr. Clay Marsh, the state’s COVID-19 tsar. “In fact, this product was the same product that was given to President Trump when he became infected. Although this injection is not harmful, the vaccine has been replaced. But this event provides our leadership with an important opportunity to review and improve the safety and vaccination process for every West Virginia. ”
