Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) could die in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17. But the looks of Lexie Gray (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) gave fans hope. In Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Meredith contracted the coronavirus (COVID-19). Viewers watched as the general surgeon’s health declined. Eventually she was put on a fan. That said, Meredith is transported unconscious to a dream beach every time. She has also reunited with a number of dead fans, including Lexie, Mark, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and George O’Malley (TR Knight).

Mark and Lexie helped Meredith breathe Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 10. The beloved characters – who died as a result of the devastating plane crash – urged Meredith to fight for her life and urged her not to ‘waste one minute’. They also reminded Meredith of the beauty of life in the midst of all the sadness.

“The depth of sadness you felt with all the losses, it’s because of the depth of love,” Lexie said. “As long as you live, you can feel it and do something about it.”

Meanwhile, the doctors at Gray Sloan Memorial Meredith took off the ventilator in the real world. Then to everyone’s surprise, Meredith was able to breathe on her own.

Following Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, episode 10, Dane explained what Mark and Lexie’s return meant for Meredith’s recovery. The actor also hinted that it was “too early” for Meredith to stay on the beach.

“Mark Sloan and Lexie Gray are embedded in the DNA of the program, and literally Lexie and Meredith share the same DNA,” Dane said. “I think there’s a connection there and reminds her that even though we’re not forgotten, we’re always there when you need us, and it’s too early for you to stay on the beach.”

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter following the new episode, Dane tells how he feels about the bow.

“It’s a very moving moment,” the actor said. ‘I would think that anyone talking to anyone outside the grave would probably give the same advice. You get one round in life, it is very important that you live life to the fullest every day. You hold both feet in today, you remain present. And you are there for your loved ones. ‘

For now, Grey’s Anatomy fans will have to wait and see if Meredith dies in season 17. But in the promotional trailer for season 17, episode 11, it looks like Meredith is waking up.

That being said, it’s too early to tell what happens next. In February 2021, Pompeo continues CBS Sunday Morning and claims she does not know if Meredith’s journey will end Grey’s Anatomy Season 17.

“We do not know, I’m in it,” Pompeo said when asked if Meredith would live or die. “I mean, you know, we have choices.”
