ERCOT’s call on Texans to save power ends; No energy emergency was reported, officials said

Texas’ power grid operator ERCOT, which came under fire in mid-February over dealing with the historic winter storm, says an urgent request for energy savings Tuesday is now over.

“Our call for energy saving has ended without the need for emergencies. Thank you for saving energy when needed,” the network operator tweeted at 20:40.

While it had made the warning and custody request about four hours earlier, ERCOT said it did not expect the customer to interrupt.

“By declaring an emergency, we will have access to additional resources,” ERCOT explained.

In terms of conservation, it has called on consumers and businesses to reduce their electricity consumption from noon to tonight.

During an evening call with ERCOT officials in the evening, they were asked if Texans would expect this to happen again. ERCOT said it is certainly possible.

The agency reminded reporters that it was not the same as in February’s winter storm, saying it was merely a precautionary event that would exacerbate conditions in a few hours.
