The WandaVision author says that the flashback scenes of episode 8 were the key to telling the series’ story and Wanda’s conversion into Scarlet Witch.
WandaVision author Laura Donney has revealed that episode 8’s flashback series have always been a priority for the series. After episode 7 and the great revelation of Agnes’ true identity, WandaVision stepped back into the past for his penultimate episode. The episode, titled “Previously On,” followed Wanda and Agatha as they explored Wanda’s youth and the trauma from it. Wanda’s sadness has always been the focus of WandaVision, but episode 8 delves deep into why Wanda is who she is.
The episode began with Wanda going to her past in Sokovia, revealing that her love for sitcoms comes from TV nights she had as a child with her family. During one of the nights, Wanda and Pietro’s parents are killed, and the siblings are forced to hide under a bed for two days while waiting for a bomb in their living room. The episode then zooms in on several other events, including the strengthening of Wanda’s powers thanks to the Mind Stone and a formative moment in the relationship between Wanda and Vision.

It all ends with the revelation of how Wanda started the Hex, and Donney says these flashbacks have always been the key to telling Wanda’s story. Donney mentions an experience with her own therapist who shaped the writing WandaVision. She further says that the writers in her past time spent with Wanda to make sense of her future. Donney concludes by saying the reaction to the episode was overwhelming for her and her co-writers.

Wanda’s sadness has always been the focus of WandaVision and because the series drew back the curtain, the show helped viewers understand how and why Wanda originated in Westview. Of course, it all culminates in her transformation into the Scarlet Witch and her application of Chaos Magic at the end of WandaVision episode 8. With the program that possibly sets Wanda up as a villain, it’s good to investigate it in depth how Wanda got to where she is.
With only one episode left, WandaVision She seems to have scored all the points it needs to hit to give Wanda Maximoff the story she deserves, especially as she becomes one of the main villains in the MCU Phase 4. It’s hard to balance the bombast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with more grounded stories about sadness and trauma, but WandaVision in episode 8, there is room for such stories in the world’s largest film universe.
