Ray Wang, founder of Constellation Research, argues that Big Tech standards ‘are not uniformly applied’ and that the suspensions against Parler will be ‘problematic’ in the long run.
Parler registered his domain on Monday with the host website Epik, according to publicly available WHOIS search results. However, Epik told FOX Business that he had not entered into discussions with Parler about offering the alternative social media platform.
PARLER SUES AMAZON FOR SUSPENSION OF APP OF CLOUD SERVICE, CLAIM FOR VIOLATION OF ANTITRUST AND BREACH OF CONTRACT
Prior to Parler’s domain registration on Monday, Epik announced a statement that he ‘had no contact with and or any conversation with Parler regarding the fact that our organization would become their registrar or hosting provider’, and that Parler, according to his understanding, is working to ‘the satisfaction to satisfy terms placed on them by various elements of their supply chain. ‘
However, the statement appears to have defended Parler as he slammed tech giants such as Facebook and Twitter for ‘making true change or accountability almost impossible’, arguing that the ‘political interests and goals of their own managers ultimately create an unmistakable double standard for policing and enforcement. “
“In terms of the eagerness of some people to ask for mass attrition and universal cancellations, it is becoming increasingly easy to demonize someone who has different beliefs, without acknowledging the real consequences and impact it may have on society,” wrote Epik Senior Vice President. of communication Robert Davis. Evil attack campaigns can be easily fabricated, online or offline, to promote a false public consensus.
“Without smarter discernment beyond a mob-based judgment of immediate convenience, the decisions we make now can finally be used to diminish freedoms that many take for granted.”
Davis told FOX Business Epik called Parler after being blinded by its registration, but never discussed hosting the platform. Instead, the conversation focused strictly on techniques Parler could use to improve his oversight and moderation of content to maintain the political conversation on his platform.
“It was not about hosting,” Davis said. “It was Parler who literally wanted to find out what the best ideas were to prevent hateful content in their networks in the future.. “
A Parler spokesman did not immediately return FOX Business’ request for comment.

Parler’s registration comes after ties to Amazon Web Services were served after screenshots appeared to show Parler users openly discussing plans for violence during the protest that preceded the attack on the Capitol by Trump supporters last week. Parler has since filed a lawsuit alleging that AWS acted with ‘political animus’ in its decision to close the platform and that Amazon committed a breach of contract and antitrust breach.
