Epic Store will have more exclusive than ever in 2021/2022

Epic Games is doubling its strategy to sign developers up for offers to bring their games as full or timely exclusive products to the Epic Games Store.

A spokesman told PC Gamer that in 2021/2022 Epic has more exclusives on the way than it ever had. “We have more exclusives in the next two years than we have published so far,” a spokesman said.

PC Gamer estimates that more than 100 titles have been released in the Epic Games Store as exclusive forms in one form or another since the platform was launched in 2018.

The website reported that there are about 21 titles that have been announced as exclusive to the Epic Games Store, but that have not been released yet. It seems that in the future there will be many, many more announcements to fill the gap.

Some of the upcoming exclusive EGS we know of include Oddworld Soulstorm, Saturnalia and The Wolf Among Us 2, as well as the following games from Remedy, Playdead and genDesign.

In 2020, Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, said Epic’s quest for exclusivity, though controversial, was very successful for Epic. The exclusive generated a huge amount of revenue for the burgeoning game store and helped it get off the ground. Sweeney was openly discussing how Epic will continue to pay for exclusives to continue eating into Steam’s market share and grow its own store.

Even without paying a developer to bring their games exclusively to the Epic Games Store, developers are already being encouraged to do so due to the developer-friendly revenue-sharing mode of the store. Epic takes only 12 percent of game sales, giving 88 percent back to the studios. This percentage is much more favorable than the traditional 70/30 revenue distribution that exists on Steam and other computer and console platforms, as well as iOS.

Another strategy that Epic has used to bring people to the Epic Games Store is to give away free games – and this great offer will continue in 2021.
