Epic Games has acquired Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Val guys studio Mediatonic. The group also includes publisher Irregular Corporation and another studio, Fortitude Games.
“Apart from the shared vision among our teams, we see tremendous potential to combine forces with Epic,” said Paul Croft, co-founder and CEO of Tonic Games Group, in a statement. ‘Whether it’s about making our own games the best they can be If we empower other game developers to take their content from the core of an idea to commercial success, we know we’ll be able to reach higher heights together. ‘
The Val guys “game does not change,” according to Epic. The company plans to continue investing in the striking platform Battle Royale. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, PS5 and Steam. Val guys will end up on Nintendo Switch and Xbox this summer. After this deal, it’s likely to arrive at the Epic Games Store in the future as well.
In a blog post, Mediatonic said it hopes to feature some features of Fortnite and Rocket League over to Val guys. This includes account systems, cross-country and group-on-group. Unlike the other two games, Val guys not going to play for free, at least not for now. Val guys already use the same anti-cheat software as Fortnite.
The news comes on the same day as Val guys receive nominated five BAFTA Games Awards. Mediatonic recently unveiled a futuristic theme for the upcoming fourth season.
