Entries for vaccination clinics in Jackson County close after exceeding capacity

CENTRAL POINT, Ore – A Phase 1A vaccination clinic and educators have closed registration after exceeding the number of available doses of COVID-19 vaccinations, Jackson County officials said.

The three-day event started on Thursday and officials say it was very successful. At the start of the clinic, Asante administered a total of 6,000 vaccine doses to eligible participants, and more than 2,500 were administered on Thursday alone.

Jackson County issued an urgent statement Thursday afternoon, warning that staff are seeing a number of people arriving at the event who are not eligible under the guidelines. Tanya Phillips, spokeswoman, indicated that many seniors had mistakenly heard that they could be vaccinated, although the state had postponed the vaccination of seniors until February.

Regardless, the number of people who qualify after signing up online – and being prepared with the necessary paperwork – has impressed officials.

Asante updated its website on Friday morning to indicate that the event is now closed for further registrations. Sunday, a similar clinic begins in Josephine County and registrations are still open.

Providence CEO Chris Pizzi told NewsWatch 12 that the medical service provider has made another 3,500 doses available to ensure that all eligible and enrolled can be vaccinated at the end of the clinic on Saturday.
