BATON ROUGE – As thousands of people are without power Monday through Tuesday morning due to an icy winter storm, crew members are working hard with Entergy and Demco to restore electricity in areas in southern Louisiana.
More than 100,000 were without power on Monday. Crew worked feverishly Monday night to reconnect homes. Some people are expected to be without power overnight.
For those with electricity, Entergy has also issued a warning to residents to moderate their power consumption.
“When power is interrupted in the winter, many customers have their heating systems and appliances turned on, which creates too much energy demand at the same time as we try to restore power,” the company said.
Later Monday, Entergy issued another statement asking customers to reduce their power consumption, specifically between 5pm and 9pm.
Entergy said the demand for energy could exceed the current level of electricity due to the weather. If he can not sustain the question, Entergy says periodic interruptions may be necessary to prevent more extensive interruptions. The company currently predicts that the load will exceed that of January 2019 and will reach an all-time high.
Entergy’s tips for reducing power consumption include the following.
Lower the central thermostat to 68 degrees and adjust the windows accordingly.
Use energy-saving ceiling fans and portable fans to circulate air to help your comfort.
– Open blinds, curtains and drapes to keep the sun warm.
Delay laundry, dishwashing, bathing and other non-essential uses of electricity until this call for conservation has ended.
-Wash clothes with cold water, cook food in the lowest possible environment and do not keep the oven door open during baking.
Do not allow hot air to escape from the house.
