With the announcement on its Discord channel, Experiment 7 confirmed the Oculus Quest version of Catan VR contains the same content from previous versions of the VR board game, plus extra goodies to further enhance the experience.

According to the studio, there are ‘additional private matchmaking features’, but did not say so. This only applies to the Oculus Quest version as the developer further states, “All other versions are still compatible with standard games – and we’re looking at the feasibility of transferring the private updates from other matchmaking to other platforms.”

Catan VR for Oculus Quest will also include a new room called ‘The Study’, new high-resolution textures and border animations; 90 Hz mode for Oculus Quest 2, a higher resolution display mode that offers 1832p on Quest 2, and updated network and voice stability. Because of all these extra enhancements, Experiment 7 says, “The Quest 2 version is definitely the best version in performance, detail, and clarity we’ve ever made.” So this is something to look forward to.

Experiment 7 brought back the classic board game on VR platforms in 2018, which originally supported Oculus Rift and Gear VR, followed by Steam and then PlayStation VR. Designed for up to four players, in Catan VR you play a settler who must establish colonies on the island of Catan. To do this, you need to acquire resources to build towns and roads while trading with other players. The ultimate goal is to grow big enough to achieve the ten winning points needed to win.

Catan VR will be available on the Oculus Quest platform from Thursday, February 4th for $ 14.99 USD. It will support cross-buying in the Oculus Store, so if you already own the Rift version, you also own the Quest edition. Read on for further updates on the latest Oculus Quest versions VRFocus.
