Emirates sends its latest A380 to London
From 4 January, EK003 / 004 will be driven by the latest Airbus A380 entering the Emirates fleet. The flight departs daily from Dubai at 14:30 local time and arrives at London-Heathrow at 18:20 local time. The return flight is a red eye at night, departing from London-Heathrow at 20:20 local time and reaching Dubai the next morning at 07:20.
There are currently five daily flights traveling from Dubai on Emirates to London-Heathrow. Of these, four are driven by an Airbus A380. One of them has a first-class economy cabin.
The new Airbus A380
Emirates has currently received one Airbus A380 with a brand new premium economy cabin. The 56-seat cabin is set out in a 2-4-2 setup. Each seat offers a height of 40 centimeters and is 19.5 centimeters wide. The lying area on each seat is eight centimeters.
In addition to the new premium economy cabin, Emirates has also updated the rest of its cabins. In the first class, the airline offers 14 suites that are slightly wider and feature higher doors for more privacy and comfort. The bathroom with a shower also has a refreshing design and modern fittings.
In business class, the 76 seats remained in the same style and configuration. However, it received a design update with champagne-colored leather and wood finishes, similar to what the airline offers on its newer Boeing 777s.
Finally, in economy, all 338 seats have a new ergonomic design with full leather headrests and flexible side panels. According to Emirates, this seat is a ‘step up’ of its Boeing 777 economy seats.
Premium economy is not for sale yet
Emirates only has one Airbus A380 with premium economy. Until more of its aircraft receive the new cabin, Emirates will offer these seats only on a discretionary basis as upgrades for its customers.
The airline will not sell tickets for premium economy until it can ensure that its customers are able to fly premium economy. A last-minute plane exchange could mean that Emirates’ customers no longer fly with an excellent economy, which could lead to problems over where the passengers should place on the new plane. All other cabins are available for booking.
