Sharon Carter – the niece of Steve’s original love interest, agent Peggy Carter – is a CIA agent and former agent of SHIELD who was introduced in Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After that, she returned for Civil War, in which she played a more prominent role. Because she was Peggy’s niece, Sharon obviously put a potential love interest in Steve’s job, and she was a very helpful ally for Steve during the events of Civil War. It was during Sharon’s last scene with Steve that he kissed her to thank her for the support she provided. The two separated and Sharon fled.

In The falcon and the winter soldier, reveals what became of Sharon’s life afterwards Civil War. Sharon is no longer the idealistic agent with the strong moral compass that everyone has ever known, but lives as a fugitive in the criminal city known as Madripoor, awaiting her long-awaited forgiveness. Her experiences in the post-Blip world shaped Sharon into a tougher, more cynical version of herself, after realizing how much she had sacrificed for Steve and his friends.

“She went through it, of course,” VanCamp explained. “She is thriving reluctantly, I would say in this new world as this refugee in this lawless country and was obviously waiting for her apology which did not come.” VanCamp said it was sad to see her character in this state, but at the same time acknowledged that there is a strong storytelling potential for Sharon to move forward. “It makes her really interesting. It’s very cool to see her independent of Cap, the shield, Peggy, and it’s a kind of crook on her own.”

Directed by Kari Skogland, The falcon and the winter soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. New episodes debut on Fridays at Disney +.
