Emilio Estevez returns in the first trailer for ‘The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers’

It is 25 years ago that we see Emilio Estevez occupy his skates for the third and final final of 1996 Mighty Ducks movie. But Ducks say never die … and neither do peewee hockey coaches. Gordon Bombay is back in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, a new Disney + series based on the 1990s franchise. Before its debut on March 26 on the streaming service, Disney released a preview of the 10-episode series that introduces us to the new status quo in Minneapolis youth hockey. Thanks to Bombay’s coaching, the Mighty Ducks are now the most powerful hockey team, and it’s a lavish competition to make the team. This is what Evan Morrow (Good Boys Breakout Star, Brady Noon) learns when he was cut out of the team without ceremony and is looking for a new place to land. “If you can not play well in hockey, do not bother,” said one of the coaching staff.

But Evan’s mother, Alex – played by Gilmore Girls Lauren Graham, the stars of her son’s rejection, is taking up the idea of building a new team of hockey outfits. And she’s going to get help from another Ducks coach, Coach Bombay. He is no longer welcome at the arena of his former team, but he runs a dilapidated ice rink that does not do much business. No wonder he got cynical about the sport again, and Alex said at the point, “Why do you care so much?” “Because you care,” she replied. Where Gordon Bombay goes, the triple blanket may not be far behind.

Not surprisingly, Ducks fans feel the nostalgia of the 90s on Twitter.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers premieres March 26 at Disney +.
