SpaceX’s plans to leave Earth orbit begin with Starship, a next-generation spaceship that could one day deploy satellites, carry artists around the moon and even touch Mars.
SpaceX founder Elon Musk Tweeted a Stainless Steel Starship Prototype in Texas on January 10, 2019. This version was not intended for orbital service, but was used as a ‘funnel’ to test takeoffs and landings. The latest prototypes look a little different.
“Starship will look like liquid silver,” Musk tweeted in late 2018. SpaceX is working on an orbital prototype in Texas and is introducing a series of test vehicles through short flights. Musk said he wants to put a Starship in orbit as soon as July 2021.
