Yesterday, Elon Musk tweeted that Betes V9.0 from Tesla’s Full Self Driving (FSD) would be available soon, and that this new update would transition to a pure vision without radar. In a follow-up response to @WholeMarsBlog’s request for more information on ‘pure vision’, Elon shared some precious chunks of information.
If radar and vision do not agree, which one do you believe in? Vision has much more precision, so better to double the vision than to fuse sensor.

Elon touched on a common issue that can cause confusion in any smart vehicle or device that uses both radar and vision (what do you believe if they disagree?), And then notes that the vision was more precise. It’s smarter to focus on vision than to merge with the sensor – working with the most precise and accurate option is best for any result.
Austin’s Tesla Owners Club also had some insights to share and Elon responded to those with more information.
Good point.
The next major software rev will do much better with windshield wiper automation, seat heating and defrosting.
Probable seat settings, based only on the mass distribution of the occupants, should be possible.
