Elon Musk wants to expand his presence in the Lone Star State.

The business magnate shared the news via Twitter on Tuesday, revealing his plans to create his own Texas city called ‘Spacebase’.

Although Musk kept details to a minimum, Cameron’s judge Eddie Treviño confirmed that he was aware of the SpaceX CEO’s desire for Boca Chica Village, the small Texas town where SpaceX is building its deep space rocket. , to incorporate. Treviño suggested commissioners be open to the idea, but said Musk and his airline should undergo a formal process that could include petitions.

“If SpaceX and Elon Musk want to follow this path, they must comply with all statutory incorporation laws,” Treviño said in a statement. ‘Cameron County will process any applicable petitions in accordance with applicable law.

Boca Chica Village currently has a population of about two dozen people, which means it is far from being designated as a ‘city’; However, Musk told a Twitter user that Spacebase goes beyond Boca Chica, indicating that he intends to take on at least one other city.

In late 2020, Musk confirmed that he had moved from California to Texas, and his private Musk Foundation moved from the Golden State to Austin. The move came after the billionaire expressed frustration over California regulators and their high taxes; but he reassured the public that SpaceX would still have a presence in the state.

‘In the first place, Tesla and SpaceX obviously have big operations in California. “In fact, it is noteworthy that Tesla is the last automotive company to still manufacture cars in California,” he said in December. “SpaceX is the last aviation company that still manufactures a lot in California. So. There used to be more than a dozen car plants in California. And California used to be the center of aviation manufacturing! My companies are the last two left … This is a very important point to set up … Yes, I moved to Texas. ‘

Stay tuned if more information on “Spacebase” is available.
