Elon Musk Says a 1950s-Style Tesla Charger Station Comes to Santa Monica, California

Elon Musk revived the idea of building a dining room style in the 1950s Tesla Ing (NASDAQ: TSLA) Charger Station in Santa Monica, California.

what happened: Tesla CEO said Santa Monica will soon have a “big new Supercharger station” with a retro dining room and movies.

Musk is responding to a tweet from a photo showing a long queue at a Supercharger in the city.

Musk also thanked the city of Santa Monica and possibly hinted that local officials would approve the plan.

Musk mentions the idea in 2018, reports Elektrek and mentions Musk that he planned to open an “old-school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles.”

Although it was not clear how serious the plan was, the company did apply for building permits in Santa Monica, Elektrek said, adding that the project was experiencing problems with local government.

Why it matters: One of Tesla’s biggest competitive advantages is its Supercharger network, which enables easy, long-distance travel for customers in many parts of the world.

While it’s unfortunate that customers have to wait for a charge, it also shows how successful Tesla has become. As Tesla’s deliveries increase, so does the need for Superchargers. And as the need grows, so do the lines.

According to Elektrek, Tesla has also considered adding features such as lounges and coffee shops to its Supercharger stations.

Fortunately, most Tesla vehicles can charge from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. And with a 50% charge that reaches even the Teslas with the lowest distance over 100 miles, most people can be on their way fast.
