The topic of cryptocurrency driving Mars’ economy appeared briefly on Twitter last week. AI researcher Lex Fridman tweeted: “Mars economy will run on crypto.” In response, Twitter handled Elon’s World proposal, “Marscoin.” Musk himself answers only with a ‘Yes’.

It is not clear whether Musk was referring to the cryptocurrency called ‘marscoin’ launched in 2014, and whether he was just talking about a future project of the same name. According to the project sheet, the existing project was launched to become a Mars currency. The code was a fork of Litecoin, and it originally traded on Nova Exchange. After peaking during the initial bubble of 2017 for the first coin offering (ICO), the price dropped sharply and the coin was delisted from Nova shortly thereafter. Furthermore, Nova Exchange officially closes on January 28 for business.

Musk also recently talked about two other much more popular cryptocurrencies: bitcoin and dogecoin. Last week, he pondered the idea that his company would put Tesla billions of dollars in BTC, as suggested by the CEO of the Nasdaq-listed Microstrategy, which now has about 70,470 BTC in its treasury. Musk asked, “Are such big deals even possible?” He has also tweeted a few times over dogecoin over the years. Until very recently, his Twitter profile showed: “Former CEO of Dogecoin.”

Spacex said in October that it would not recognize any international legislation on Mars. The terms of service of its Starlink Internet project state: “For services rendered on Mars, or traveling to Mars via Starship or other colonization spacecraft, the parties recognize Mars as a free planet and that no terrestrial government has authority or sovereignty over the activities of Mars. . Consequently, disputes will be settled by means of self-governing principles, which were established in good faith during the settlement of Mars. ”
