Elliot Page has revealed that he underwent top surgery as part of his transgender journey.
The Umbrella Academy star said the surgery, which removes breast tissue to give it a more masculine appearance, is life-changing.
“It changed my life completely,” he told Time magazine in a cover story.
Page said the operation was not trans-definition, but that it gave him freedom from the ‘total hell’ that was puberty and that he could finally recognize himself when he looked in the mirror.
The “Juno” star revealed that he recovered from the operation when he came out as a transgender in December.
“I feel happy to be writing this. To be here. To come to this place in my life, ”Page (34) wrote in his announcement on social media. ‘I feel overwhelmingly grateful for the amazing people who supported me on this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. ”
His wife, Emma Portner, said she was ‘so proud’ of Page because she came out authentic and alive, but since then they have decided to separate paths; Page filed for divorce from Portner in January.
“After much deliberation and careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our divorce last summer,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”
The divorce took place just three years after the couple married in January 2018.
Page and Portner – both born in Canada – were very open about their love for each other, including that they once posed topless and kissed each other in an Instagram post from June 2019 with the caption: “HAPPY PROUD !!! Send love . ”
