Elliot Page became the first transgender man to ever appear on the cover of Time, when the Canadian actor revealed his decision to come out last year.

The 34-year-old, whose film credits ‘Inception’ and two episodes include the ‘X-Men’ franchise, appears in the upcoming issue of the magazine under the heading ‘I am completely who I am’.

This is Page’s first major interview since the revelation of his gender identity in December. In an interview with Time reporter Katy Steinmetz, he describes the mixed reaction to the announcement, made via Instagram, in which he reveals his pronouns as ‘he’ and ‘them’.

“What I expected was a lot of support and love and a huge amount of hate and transphobia,” Page is quoted as saying. “That’s essentially what happened.”

The actor, who won an Oscar nomination for his role in ‘Juno’ in 2008, also discussed his childhood and said that he ‘felt like a boy’ from an early age ‘. He remembers the ‘feeling of triumph’ when he was allowed to cut his 9-year-old hair.

Page, who previously came out as gay in 2014, also spoke of a top operation, a move he described as ‘completely changing my life’. He then discusses the struggle for transgender equality, as well as the “crushing standards” and “pervasive stereotypes about masculinity and femininity in the entertainment industry.”

“Extremely influential people are spreading these myths and damaging rhetoric – every day when you see our existence debating,” he said in the interview. “Transgender people are so very real.”

“I want to have it for so many years and work on it,” Neill wrote in the caption. “I’m so proud of Elliot and I’m so grateful to the elders who went out of their way to make this moment happen.”

Page also posted the cover on Instagram, writing: ‘With deep respect for those who came before me, gratitude to those who supported me and the great concern for the generation of trans youths that we should all protect. legislation, hatred and discrimination in all its forms. ‘
