Ellen DeGeneres opens on COVID-19 experience as talk show resumes

Ellen DeGeneres begins her experience with COVID-19.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show resumed on Wednesday – more than a month after the diagnosis of the host and the program suddenly interrupted for a long time. She addressed the audience, which is again in the midst of California’s coronavirus crisis, and asked dr. Sanjay Gupta asked the medical expert to discuss the latest with the coronavirus.

“Obviously there are a lot of negative things going on, so I want to talk about something positive – my COVID test,” said the 62-year-old star, who revealed her diagnosis on December 10. “Positive!”

“I’m fine now,” she said. ‘Everything is good. I am completely clear, ”after dealing with painful back pain in the midst of her illness.

She thanks “everyone who came out with kind words of support. I wish I could embrace each and every one of you. It would probably have been dangerous and illegal. ”

DeGeneres said she was in her hair and makeup last month when her assistant informed her she was testing positive. She said, “everyone around me ran away.”

She continued, ‘I left the studio immediately and our COVID security team told everyone I was in touch … I’m home, of course. I had to quarantine. Portia [de Rossi] made me sleep in another room, in another bed, because she wanted the race car bed for herself. ‘

Jokes aside, she said she slept ’16 hours a day ‘for the first three days. On day four, “I woke up with back spasms” and they continued. While her doctor put her on pain medication and a muscle relaxant, they ‘helped nothing. My back got worse. It felt like I had cracked a rib. “Later she was also put on a steroid suit,” she said, adding that she has since learned that back pain can be a symptom of COVID-19.

DeGeneres says back pain is her only symptom, but note that she has no fever or headache and has not lost her sense of taste. “Although I did wear Crocs with socks” while she was ill, she said.

“I am very, very happy. Very, very blessed. It was for me, ‘she said, but added,’ I still do not know where I got it. I wear a mask. I washed my hands … I know a lot of people there are struggling now. My heart goes out to everyone. ”

DeGeneres spoke to Gupta about COVID-19, especially in California where one in five people tested positive. There were more than 2.8 million cases in the state with more than 31,000 deaths.
