Ellen DeGeneres is getting heat online because she admitted to driving her wife, Portia de Rossi, to hospital in March after drinking three “weed drinks” and taking sleeping pills without a prescription.
DeGeneres admitted that Jimmy Kimmel admitted on Tuesday during an episode with his marijuana theme that what she did was probably not safe.
DeGeneres explained that she found de Rossi on the bathroom floor of their home, with visible pain, but only after the day officer of the day drank three Cann drinks and the sleep aid melatonin. She then drove de Rossi to hospital for emergency appendectomy.
“Chelsea Handler told me about these weed drinks, they’s called Cann, and they have downtown or [THC] – I do not know what the good thing is, ”DeGeneres (63) explained.
“I drank one and felt nothing, so I drank three and then drank two melatonin sleeping pills,” she continued.
‘And I’m lying in bed, and I realize [Portia’s] not in bed, ”said DeGeneres. She groaned. I get out of bed and she’s on all fours on the ground and I said, ‘It’s not going well with you.’ She says, “I’m OK.” I said, ‘No, unless you play Twister yourself, you’re not OK.’ So I rushed her to the emergency room. ”
Kimmel, 53, asked DeGeneres, “Did you drive her yourself?”
“I have,” she replied. ‘I mean, I kicked in like my adrenaline, because I just had to chase her there. It’s probably not safe.
“I should not have said anything about this,” DeGeneres added.
Some social media users denies DeGeneres’ anecdote as an example of her privilege, with one writing: ‘She could kill someone. I’m so sick of her being eligible, ”according to the Daily Mail.
According to the company that manufactures Cann, Vana, their range of drinks with marijuana varies in strength, from a mixture of 2 mg THC combined with 4 mg CBD to 5 mg THC. (For reference, the Marijuana Policy Project recommends that a first edible user start with a dose of 5 milligrams.)
De Rossi, 48, was released the day after her procedure. At the time, DeGeneres said she “had a lot of pain” after the surgery, but that she “now feels much better.”
