Elle Fanning signs to play Ali McGraw in Francis and The Godfather

Elle Fanning moves from her Golden Globe-nominated performance in Hulu’s The Great to a film project about one of the most respected films of all time.

The 22-year-old actress played Oscar-nominated actress Ali McGraw in Francis and the Godfather over the production of the 1972 classic The Godfather.

Barry Levinson is the director of the film, who tells the behind-the-scenes drama of director Francis Ford Coppola’s adaptation of Mario Puzo’s novel, which is widely regarded as one of the best films of all time.

While McGraw did not star in The Godfather, she was married at the time to Robert Evans, who was Paramount’s head of production during the filming of The Godfather.

She joins a cast of the A-list, including Oscar Isaac as Francis Ford Coppola, Jake Gyllenhaal as Evans and Elisabeth Moss as the director’s wife Eleanor Coppola.

Filming is expected to take place this fall, although there is currently no distributor available.

“I’m delighted that she’s joined the fantastic cast of ‘Francis & The Godfather’ and will bring her unique talent to the film,” he added.

Levinson directs from a screenplay by Andrew Farotte, which the director redeveloped after making the Blacklist in 2015 as one of the favorite non-producing texts.

The project is actually one of two that goes behind the scenes of The Godfather, and the other is the Paramount Plus series The Offer.

This project, based on producer Albert S. Ruddy’s experiences with making the film, caused a stir when Armie Hammer turned down the project, in which he played Ruddy, after allegations of sexual misconduct arose.
