Elgato’s new Light Strip can make your setup look colder

Elgato, the Corsair company known for its game- and creator-oriented streaming technology, is expanding to smart lighting. It introduced the Light Strip, a thin strip full of 108 dimmable LEDs that can be affixed, bent and finished to fit wherever you want. It can be controlled via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only) through a free app on MacOS, Windows 10, iOS or Android, or from Elgato’s Stream Deck hardware, which apparently offers deeper integration. Elgato charges $ 59.99 for two-meter lights, including the controller to which the lights connect and a power adapter.

This is similar in execution to most connected light strips, including Philips Hue’s, which ironically have a tight Stream Deck integration via plugs. Not to be confused with the capabilities of something like the Philips Hue Play gradient light strip that can sync light with what’s on your screen (only after you buy some expensive extra hardware), is the cheaper solution from Elgato just for appearance.

If you’re a streamer that appears on camera, Elgato says the LEDs in the Light Strip are flicker-free. It says that other options for the naked eye look good, but that it can create a flickering effect when you are on camera. In terms of other specifications, these are RGBWW LEDs that provide cool and warm white support, in addition to millions of colors. It has a maximum output of 2000 lumens.

Elgato, which is well aware of its target audience, also announces Wave Panels. These are glorified foam pieces that can be applied to your space (with adhesive or with a wall anchor) to enhance the acoustics. It will probably be especially helpful if you record your voice. They have an edgy look, and Elgato releases them in different colors. It’s $ 100 for six panels and fitters.

Updated 9:39 a.m. ET, March 4: pricing for Wave Panels added.
