Eddie Murphy gives his version of ‘Chappelle’s Show’ Prince Basketball Story

Eddie Murphy tells his side of the “totally and absolutely accurate” of his hilarious game of pick-up basketball with Prince – and it’s just as funny as when his brother Charlie Murphy explained in Dave Chappelle’s sketch comedy story. Although, he admits that there are some inconsistencies in the original story.

Murphy made an appearance in Jimmy Fallon’s talk show as he promoted his upcoming film Upcoming 2 America before the premiere of the film on Amazon Prime, where he opened up about the crazy experience. While the original narrative said that he and his brothers were offered some of Prince’s clothes to play in, Murphy says that he and his friends actually ‘had things from the club’. Prince allegedly wore the same outfit from his “Kiss” video, blouse included.

“My brother was like, ‘Okay, these are going to be shirts against blouses,'” he began. “The blouses won, they beat the s – out of us,” he said as he laughed with the host. ‘We had one man in our team Larry who could play, and he did not have shoes, and Prince gave him some sneakers. “Prince wore like two, three sizes smaller than Larry, but Larry was so excited to put on Prince’s sneakers, he put those little sneakers on his feet and he couldn’t do his game right,” he said. “So we lost. The one man who could play, Prince’s shoes allowed him. ”

The comedian filled the rest of the interview with impressions of the legends he met in his career, as well as some of his favorite memories. Murphy discusses the time when he received bad advice from Rodney Dangerfield, and laughs Richard Pryor about the laughter, and the legends he met and what he immediately feels are geniuses: Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney.

Eddie Murphy’s latest project serves as sequel to the first Come to America in which Prince Akeem (Murphy) returns to America in search of his prodigal son and heir to the Zamunda throne. Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, Vanessa Bell Calloway and James Earl Jones return with Murphy for the new installment, written by Black-is creator Kenya Barris. Wesley Snipes, Garcelle Beauvais, and The Old Guard star Kiki Layne joins them under the cast. The film will join the streaming service on March 5th.
