Eating more of these nutrients can reduce your risk of kidney disease, says new study

A new study from Seoul National University College of Medicine has been published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition after looking at the calorie ratios of the macronutrients that participants consumed. The aim of the researchers was to identify a healthy dietary balance that can prevent chronic kidney disease.

The study used data from 567,000 participants and determined a basal ratio of macronutrients to 50% carbohydrates, 35% fats and 15% protein. They found that, as the study summary states, higher relative protein intake in subjects with normal renal function was significantly associated with a lower risk of chronic kidney disease and end stage renal disease. Conversely, individuals with a higher fat intake also have a higher risk of impaired renal function.
