Eagles WR Marquise Goodwin returns to 49ers

If you’ve a fan of weird NFL deals, you’ll love it. ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter) that Eagles wideout Marquise Goodwin returned to the 49ers, according to the trading terms the teams completed last year.

However, it does not sound as if the veteran receiver’s second period in San Francisco is going to last that long. Yates notes that Goodwin is unlikely to fit in with the 49ers ‘plans for the wide receiver, and believes that it simply’a procedural move. ”

After four seasons at Buffalo, Goodwin joined the 49ers in 2017. He had a breakout campaign for his new group, using 56 receptions for 962 yards and two touchdowns. However, the receiver was nowhere near adjusting production between the 2018 and 2019 seasons, and he set up 605 yards of scrimmage and five scores in 20 games (14 starts).

Goodwin was awarded to the Eagles last April in a deal with which the 49ers and Eagles selected the sixth round. The 30-year-old has finally declared himself an opt-out for the 2020 season, and his term of office in Philly ends without him taking the field for his new group.
