It would appear that during the weekend it was reported that the Eagles were investigating a deal for Zach Ertz.
The Eagles have been researching a deal for many months for their Pro Bowl finish, though some of these explorations may have been put in the backyard because, you know, the fullback is standing in front and in the middle.
According to an NFL source, the Eagles had talks about Ertz with the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts.
Prior to last season’s deadline, the Eagles had offers from the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers, but Ertz got a high single strain and ended up on the Injured Reserve, which virtually ensured he would complete his eighth season in Philly.
It’s not inconceivable that Carson Wentz and Ertz could be dealt with in a package deal to perhaps increase the return the Eagles would get in such a huge success, but the Eagles are likely to disconnect the two, as any team that couple take, absorb. two large price tags for their salary limit.
Ertz has one more year left on his contract, but a new deal could be negotiated once it is traded. Either way, his – new deal or not – Ertz’s contract is still $ 8.2 this season.
The Eagles may trade Ertz ahead of Wentz, but it is believed that Wentz will be the first domino to fall into a deal.
The Seahawks make a lot of sense to Ertz if Russell Wilson is not traded, of course.
Wilson spoke last week about his unhappiness over an offensive line that could accumulate bumps and bruises on his body over the years, and the office was never really interested in making the wall in front of him firmer.
Well, Wilson could easily express his frustration over the lack of weapons in the end.
Seattle spent a fourth round at Colby Parkinson last year, but Parkinson, of Stanford, the same school that manufactured Ertz, played in just six games and had two catches for 16 yards.
Will Dissly played in all 16, but he only had 24 catches for 251 yards, which was about the same production he had in 2019.
It’s currently the team’s depth map, with Jacob Hollister and Luke Willson planned for free agency.
Already at 30, Ertz is compiling figures like Parkinson and Dissly in his sleep.
Ertz is a great option for Wilson to find before warming up an opponent’s passion while waiting for his WRs to work open.
As for the Colts, well, Ertz undoubtedly wants to play again for his former OC in Philly and Frank Reich, Indy’s head coach, but the Colts’ tighthead prop is a little better than Seattle and who plays quarterback in Indianapolis is still very much very unknown.
Jack Doyle is a strong blocking tight end and Mo Alie-Cox is developing well. Noah Togiai, a former unknown Eagles free agent last year, shows promise and Trey Burton is a free agent.
Ertz would be a welcome addition to the series.
As interesting as an Ertz-Wentz deal would be for Indy, and one that Indy could afford, since they have enough money under the expected salary cap of about $ 180 million, which comes from an Ertz-Andre Dillard deal to the Colts, what a suit to replace the outgoing Anthony Castonzo?
Dillard is expected to fight Joran Mailata to be the left-wing approach, but Mailata has proven he can do the job more than adequately.
If Ertz is traded directly to any team, the payback will not be overwhelming. A fourth round pick could be as good as it could get.
