Eagles reportedly interviewed Colts OC Nick Sirianni for head coach

Just when the Eagles seemed to limit their focus to Josh McDaniels, another name was added in their extensive coaching search.

The Eagles will conduct an interview with Colts attacking coordinator Nick Sirianni on Tuesday for their head coaching job, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sirianni, 39, has been the offensive coordinator in Indianapolis since 2018. He joined the Colts when Frank Reich, the former Eagles offensive coordinator, took over as head coach in Indianapolis after McDaniels withdrew from the post. It’s all connected!

Before joining the Eagles in 2016, Reich was with the Chargers as their quarterback coach in 2013 and their attacking coordinator in 2014-15. Sirianni then also worked for the Chargers. He was a quality control coach in 2013 and replaced Reich in 2014-15 as a quarterback coach and worked under him.

After Reich was sacked in 2016 and joined the Eagles, Sirianni stayed with the Chargers for two years and coached wide receivers before reuniting with Reich in Indianapolis in 2018.

Sirianni has coached eight-time pro bowlers Philip Rivers for years, both at the Chargers and now at the Colts.

In the three seasons under Reich and Sirianni, the Colts finished eighth in the NFL in points, averaging 25.9 points per game. And they have the 12-position offense, averaging 363.9 yards per game. The Colts were twice in the playoffs in three years.

Sirianni began his coaching career in 2004 at his alma mater, Mount Union. He coached two seasons of defensive rugby before moving to IUP in 2006 to coach receivers. In 2009 he was appointed by the Chiefs as a quality control coach and during his four seasons in Kansas City he was also the assistant coach and coach of QBs.

Sirianni will be the eighth known candidate to have interviewed after Joe Brady, Robert Saleh, Arthur Smith, Jerod Mayo, Duce Staley, McDaniels and Todd Bowles. The Eagles also requested to conduct an interview with several others.

It’s been more than a week since the Eagles fired Doug Pederson. When they entered their coaching search, they were one of the seven teams with vacancies for head coaches. They are one of only two left, along with the Texans.
