Eagles News: Joe Banner says hiring Nick Sirianni does not necessarily guarantee Carson Wentz’s return

Let’s go to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

How committed is the Eagles to correcting Carson Wentz? Not as dedicated as you think, says Joe Banner – Enquirer
I actually think it’s neutral or more likely that Carson will not return. I know everyone else says the opposite. But Sirianni is not a man who has a wide record of developing quarterbacks or schemes that are really complicated. So it’s not like they have a lot of confidence that he will come in and make Carson look like the quarterback he was in 2017. It can be neutral. They could have been where they were before starting the search where they wanted to try to fix Carson, but were also willing to consider the possibility of trading him and continuing with Jalen Hurts. Or it could be: they do not want to bring in a new coach who does not have much experience, and start with him to find out who in practice gets which representatives, and who in the locker room this guy prefers that guy. This situation presents a great challenge for a new coach. As we discussed last week, this is one of the reasons why they had trouble attracting a number of top candidates.

The Eagles believe Nick Sirianni can help correct Carson Wentz. But that is hardly a given. – BGN
Wentz’s work ethic should not be questioned. But it is unclear whether he is working in the right way to repair what needs to change. Based on his actions, he does not seem to really realize how much he owed for his own fight in 2020. He apparently made excuses for his mistakes. Instead of being humiliated by his benching, he apparently complained to Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie. He apparently has his requests to leak trades, and at least he has done nothing to distance himself from these reports. The Eagles hiring Sirianni is a bit of a concern as Josh McDaniels and Duce Staley have been partly passed over over the way they are viewed as hard coaching. It feels as if Wentz, who has exercised too much power and influence so far, might have regained his senses when he thinks he likes Reich and has hired the Eagles the closest thing to their former offensive coordinator. Sirianni is said to have an advantage over him, or at least more than Doug Pederson. Hopefully this is true and hopefully Wentz accepts stricter coaching.

Eagles stay or go: Quarterback – PhillyVoice
Maybe the team still believes in Wentz. Eh. It’s probably more like they know they’m stuck with him. The bet here is that they called in the league to determine interest in him and came away disappointed. The head coaching search was therefore aimed at candidates who had a plan to correct him if they could not move him for what they considered adequate compensation.

How Nick Sirianni Was Out of Time to Become Eagles Head Coach – NJ.com
Randy Mueller – a former GM with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, who was then the general manager of the Chargers’ football operations – said Rivers, Williams and Allen succeeded because of Sirianni’s dedication. “If you know Nick, you know his attention to detail,” Mueller said Thursday. ‘Players develop when they know what they’re doing. His players always know what they are doing, so they have a chance. He can communicate (his methods) and learn where they are confident in what they are doing so that they can develop as players. This is for my coaching. Sirianni has worked under five NFL head coaches: Haley, Crennel, McCoy, Lynn and Reich. Mueller believes that each of these systems will help Sirianni set up his own program.

Nick Sirianni finally catches up with his brothers – NBCSP
Nick Sirianni, 39, is the youngest of three boys who have all become football coaches, just like their father. Fran Sirianni is a coaching legend in New York State and a member of the Chautauqua (County) Hall of Fame for his incredible career as head coach at Southwestern. The boys grew up in a soccer household and there was always competition. But Nick was 6 years younger than Jay and 9 with Mike, so he carried the heaviest for the physical competition. “We beat him the little ones when he was younger,” Mike said.

Big Blue View Post: DeShaun Watson Trading, Daniel Jones, Pet Questions, More – Big Blue View
No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. The Giants are going and will not trade for DeShaun Watson. Bob, you may be ecstatic about your proposed deal with most of the franchise for Watson. I’m not. I know how good Watson is. But you basically want to give up half the grid to get the man. For whom is he going to hand over the ball? Throw it after? Who is going to block? It sounds to me like your idea just keeps adding names to the mix until the Texans say yes.

Report: Kyle Smith is expected to divorce the Washington Football Team – Hogs Haven
Chris Russell and the crew at Washington Football on SI.com were everywhere in the various front office moves, and now he reports that Smith is leaving the organization. One of his sources described the departure as inevitable. We do not know if Smith will work on the concept that could happen with second-tier executives in a front office in transition. Smith has hired an agent and is probably preparing for his first taste of the NFL-free agency. Russell says there are other teams investigating Smith’s availability. John Keim speculated on his latest podcast that the 49ers or Rams might be interested because of his association with Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay. Keim also said Smith was tainted by his association with Bruce Allen and the old regime. Experience and a limited resume at the highest executive level was something mentioned by several sources.

NFL Expert Selection for AFC and NFC Championship – SB Nation
The final four teams in the 2020 NFL season have been determined, with the Packers, Buccaneers, Bills and Chiefs forming the final group that no one would have expected a year ago. Well, outside the Chiefs. I think everyone outside of Kansas City is a little shocked that we are not a Browns vs. Bills does not get AFC championship, but honestly, it’s for the best. It would have really taken the wind out of the end of the season to see both the Bills and Browns take advantage of the fact that two of the league’s best young backs are being forced into the crosshairs due to a concussion protocol.
