EA investigates FIFA scandal after employee allegedly sold FUT cards

EA investigates allegations that an employee, or at least someone involved with EA FIFA, sells rare FIFA 21 Ultimate Team items in exchange for real money through a kind of temporary black market. to have screenshots of a text exchange between a suspected EA employee and a FIFA 21 player trying to buy FUT Icon and Team of the Year cards. In the text exchange, the seller offered rare cards for more than $ 1,000 USD.

Usually, the legal ways to obtain these cards require trading between players or by purchasing random suits, which makes these cards incredibly rare. It should be noted that Icon and TOTY cards are not only scarce because of the famous players, but because their competitive stats are also among the best in the game.

The scholarship has since been named EA Gate on social media. You can see the alleged details in a tweet from @FutArcade below.

It is unclear exactly how these transactions start, but according to the chat screenshots, anyone looking for rare FUT cards should only provide their PSN and EA ID and the appropriate funds. When asked by the buyer if there is any reason to worry about bans, the seller says that there is ‘no risk’, but he can not reveal why it is out of safety.

The alleged seller apparently offers a menu with items, including 3 Ikon cards for 750 Euro (~ $ 895) or 3 Ikon cards and 2 Team of the Year cards for 1 000 Euro (~ $ 1193).

In a statement published on the official EA Sports FIFA Twitter account, the company says it is aware of the allegations and has launched an investigation.

“A thorough investigation is underway, and if we identify inappropriate behavior, we will act quickly,” EA said. “We want to be clear – this kind of behavior is unacceptable and we are in no way giving in to what allegedly happened here.”

IGN contacted EA and received the same statement published on Twitter. We will have updates for when EA completes its investigation.
