Free agent fullback Dwayne Haskins needs a new team. He also needs a new agent.

Haskins and David Mulugheta of Athletes First mutually agreed to separate roads, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

The term “mutual agreement” is often used as a PR device. Rarely, if ever, is this type of disintegration truly mutual. Maybe Haskins thinks he got bad advice. Maybe Mulugheta thinks Haskins ignored good advice. Regardless, the chance that both sides have accidentally, mutually and simultaneously decided to divorce seems like a stretch.

Mulugheta and Athletes First are entitled to fees for the remainder of Haskins’ guaranteed contract with Washington. The agency therefore has a clear interest in helping the player thwart any attempt to withhold more than $ 4.2 million in unpaid salary if Washington decides not to pay Haskins for 2021 or 2022, the last two years under his rookie agreement.

Haskins, still 23, has time to turn his football career around. He will have to make a good decision about where to continue his career. He needs a good agent to guide him through the process of selecting a new team, and possibly selling an unwilling team to give Haskins a second chance.
