DUI charges dismissed over Denver Broncos’ Melvin Gordon for RB pleading guilty to lower charges

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. The Denver Broncos, which is backing Melvin Gordon’s DUI charges, were dismissed in County County Court on Wednesday morning because Gordon pleaded guilty to fewer charges of excessive speed and reckless driving.

Gordon has scheduled a jury trial for April 8 if the case is not finalized ahead of time. The 27-year-old was arrested Oct. 13 in downtown Denver and charged with DUI; he was also quoted for speeding – between 25 and 39 km / h over the legal limit.

He did not take a Breathalyzer test at the scene.

The Denver District Attorney’s Office dismissed the DUI charges after Gordon’s legal team had evidence. Gordon, who pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge in January, rescheduled a previous trial to Wednesday after his lawyers quoted new information.

Gordon is also likely to avoid league discipline. The NFL has previously suspended players charged with reckless driving, including former New York Giants kicker Aldrick Rosas, but last year Rojas was also charged with leaving the scene of the accident and driving without a valid license.

In 2018, Robby Anderson, then New York Jets receiver, was not suspended by the NFL after failing to dispute a reckless driving charge.

Gordon signed a $ 16 million two-year deal with the Broncos last season. He led the Broncos last season in jogging (215), rushing yards (986) and rushing (nine).

The dismissal on Wednesday also had a financial impact on Gordon as a suspension in the league. If Gordon were to be suspended, Broncos general manager George Paton could cancel the $ 6.5 million guaranteed money for 2021 due to the arrest.

As the season draws to a close, Gordon said: “As for the contract and all that stuff, I let my agent handle it all – the void and all that stuff. Hopefully I’ve done enough to keep them here… “So, we’ll see; hopefully it works, and hopefully they like me enough to put all things aside. I think in a few months we’ll see what’s going on.”

Two weeks after his arrest, Gordon said: ‘I’m sorry I’m even in that situation … I’m obviously trying my best to walk a straight line and lead through such things. I’m a little upset. I even put myself in that situation. ‘
