The Illinois senator wrote Friday that “these incoherent and hastily rolled out policy changes immediately led to widespread deliveries of deliveries and backlogs throughout the mail and parcels in the system.”
“Such bottlenecks put people like Veterans and older adults at risk of not receiving their life-saving prescriptions on time; “Families who are at risk of missing out on their salaries, utilities, credit card payments and court notices, and small businesses that are hit hard are at risk of not receiving critical supplies for their customers on time,” she said.
DeJoy has repeatedly come under criticism from Democrats over his decisions in 2020, although the postal service is credited with approving the vote of approval during the 2020 election, amid concerns that an increase in such voting could lead to major delays leads in the fact that people get ballots.
During the Christmas season, however, the Postal Service struggled to cope with an increase in parcel deliveries, which led to long delays.

Duckworth then quoted an October report in which the USPS Office of the Inspector General (OIG) determined that DeJoy had quickly implemented and communicated changes. “These failures are inexcusable at no point, but especially in the midst of a pandemic and presidential election year, where Americans increasingly had to use ballot papers,” Duckworth continued. “It will take considerable work to rebuild trust for this important institution, and although Americans continue to celebrate their local letter carrier, they are still concerned about the individuals who lead the agency.”
The senator argued that there should be ‘accountability for this failure in leadership’, and therefore asked Biden to ‘immediately replace the entire USPS Board of Governors’.
“I believe this step will begin to serve the public and rebuild a robust, efficient and sustainable USPS for future generations,” the Democratic senator added.
Ron Bloom, a former Obama administration official, said Tuesday was elected chairman of the USPS Board of Governors.
Bloom, a Democrat appointed by former President Trump who has served on the Postal Service Council since 2019, said after his election that he would work with fellow governors and DeJoy on a 10-year plan to leave the agency revive.
