  • Kate, 39, chose the outdoors for her first public selfie; spoken without notes
  • Mother-of-three was on the run near Cambridge’s family home in Anmer, Norfolk
  • She said: ‘This year the child’s mental health week is going out to give you expression – to find creative ways to share your thoughts’

It takes more than good genes to get the kind of glowing complexion that the Duchess of Cambridge always displays.

So it is perhaps not surprising that the radiant Kate, who gets the health benefits of fresh air in her lungs, chose the outdoors for her first public selfie.

The 39-year-old filmed herself for a special video message to launch Children’s Mental Health Week while jogging in the countryside.

Wearing a 160-pound quilted Barbour jacket and a dark blue wool hat, she said: ‘This year the child’s mental health week is going out to give you expression – to find creative ways to share your thoughts, ideas and feelings.

“Whether it’s through photography, art, drama, music or poetry – it’s finding things that make you feel good about yourself.”

The mother-of-three chatted without notes and looked directly into her phone during an interruption in her run-up to the Cambridge family in Anmer, Norfolk, and also encouraged parents and caregivers to look after their own mental well-being.

“It’s a very challenging time for all of us, so take care of yourself,” she said.

“Find ways to share your thoughts and feelings or find someone to talk to, because we really need to be the best versions of ourselves for the children in our care.”

Kate usually records a video message every year in support of Children’s Mental Health Week – which starts tomorrow – but it was definitely less formal and the first time she took a photo or video of her to make public.

It will appear on the social media sites of Kensington Palace today.

Kate admitted in a video call with parents last week that homeschooling had left her ‘exhausted’.
