In the past, when I had to use Street View, I usually tried to jump on my desktop. While the Street View feature in Google Maps on Android does work, it would often be confusing to use, simply because I could not see where I was going. Google has finally added a split-view mode for Street View on Android, making the feature much easier to use.

To use the split-screen view, simply tap the Street View window when you’ve found the right place in Google Maps, then tap the circular extension / condense button that will appear at the bottom right of Street View. appear. Once the split view is open, you can see on the map where you are, as well as the direction you are looking. It works in the landscape, as you can see in the hero image, although the portrait orientation seems more intuitive. Also note the placeholders in Street View, although they are not brand new.

What Street View used to look like on Android

We see this new view on Maps v10.59.1, which you can download here from APK Mirror, and it looks like the split screen view is right for everyone. The two screenshots above show the old UI on v10.43.7; you see the obvious lack of an extension / condense button for the split view in the. It took Google a while to implement it, but we’re glad it’s finally here.
