Drone footage shows the aftermath of the California Highway crash

Transportation officials in California are releasing drone-stricken drone surveys in the wake of the scenic collapse of the coastal road.

The stunning aerial footage shows the massive stretch of the famous Pacific Coast Highway being swallowed up by a deep rift in the cliffs bluffing the Pacific Ocean. The birds watched as large parts of the northern and southern orbits crumbled in the sea on Friday under stormy rain showers.

Officials are still assessing the damage and could not provide a timetable for completing the huge undertaking needed to repair the central section of California Highway 1.

The highway, which stretches 656 miles off the coast of the Golden State, has been closed miles in both directions of the disaster.

No injuries were reported.
