Drew Barrymore looks everywhere with TVs these days The Drew Barrymore Show and her cruelty-free makeup line, Flower Beauty, but she was largely absent from new movies and TV shows.

When she asked Andy her on SiriusXM’s Radio on Wednesday, she told Andy Cohen that she did not really think about returning. At least not yet.

“If I’m honest, the answer is no, I do not want to be on a movie set right now, but that could change as my kids get older,” Barrymore said. “I stopped doing it when my kids were born because I’ve been doing it since I was in diapers, when I was 11 months old. And it was a good idea for me to put movies on a burner “so that I could be there myself and raise my children. I did not want to be on a film set asking the babysitter how it was with the children. I was like it is not my journey. much less scary.”

Barrymore has two daughters – 8-year-old Olive and Frankie, who will turn 7 next month – who she shares with ex-husband Will Kopelman.

Her last projects were the 2020 comedy movie The Insert and before that also the Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet, in which she played a carnivorous zombie who lived in suburbia. Barrymore said the project, which spans three seasons between 2017 and 2019, is happening perfectly for her.

“It was, I have to say, I was so knee deep to mother my children. I was like I no longer know who I am. I think I went way too much in the opposite direction,” Barrymore said. “And if I can not remember being an individual with a skill, I might die. Then I had to play this woman who gets people to eat and that was exactly how I felt. And it was just perfect , and it was comedy and it was delicious and it was fun and it was reverent, and I could not have liked it anymore. And it really saved me. I gained a lot of weight. I lost my way. I go through a very difficult divorce because it was just the worst thing and everything I did not want. “

Working on the program reminded her that she was more than a struggling mother.

“The show was the biggest thing that could ever happen to me,” Barrymore said. “It reminded me not to lose the baby with the bathwater, because I do not want to film all the time, because I want to raise my children. It’s like you’re this person, do not sneak who you are. For your children. I think it’s a recipe for disaster and parenthood. “
