Dread Templar looks like Quake with a throwable katana

I feel like there are a lot of Quake-like retro person shooters right now, and I feel like each one of them has a name like Rune Rampage or Demonic Burn or Shotgun Hell. Dread Templar is the latest to enter the crowded niche – and dang if the gun and the throwable katana do not want me to burst the devils.

Although the core of the game is inspired by Quake – demons, a powerful gun, key cards, the color brown – there are also special abilities with cooling that you can use. This includes the stripe and katana throw you see in the video above. There is also a bit of bullet time, which causes you to kill an enemy every time.

Dem– I forgot his name, and had to look. Dread Templar was, unfortunately, previously called Hell Hunt, for which there was a demo available via Itch. This is understandable now, but there are some videos you can watch.

Dread Templar is available on wishlist on Steam, and aims to gain early access this fall.

My favorite game with this aesthetic remains Devil Daggers, who are all skulls but hung in a rising wave survival structure that makes it feel more like its own thing. It also recently received an update for its 5th year of existence.
