Draymond Green tried to return his comments on women’s sports and equal pay on Thursday night, just one day after Megan Rapinoe slammed the Golden State Warriors star.
Green insisted that while he did not necessarily want to look based on his comments, he and Rapinoe wanted the same.
“I think it’s unfortunate that she thinks it’s unfortunate that this is my opinion,” Green said. ‘At the end of the day, it’s the same thing Megan wants and I want. And if she believes that doing something in a certain way brings her to the end goal, I’m all for it. And if I believe in achieving something in a certain way at the end goal, I’m all for it. ‘
Green was ‘really tired’ of seeing complaints about equal pay
Green started talking in a series of tweets last week about the wage gap in sport – something that Rapinoe and the rest of the women’s team were at the forefront of. He argued that in order to better pay women in sports, they need to build their platforms better.
He then doubles down on the opinion days later, saying he’m really tired of seeing [female athletes] complain about the lack of payment because they are doing themselves a disservice by just complaining. ‘
Of course, this is not going well with Rapinoe – who is constantly advocating for greater investment in women’s sports and even did so in the White House last month. By all accounts, she did much more than ‘just complain’.
“It’s clear you’ve shown your whole ass and not even understood what we’re all talking about all the time, whether it’s WNBA players or whether we’re on the national team, “So it was frustrating.”
After the criticism, Green said his comments were misinterpreted.
He does not try to fight Rapinoe over the matter, but rather hopes that they “can both do something to move the needle to reach the end goal.”
“It doesn’t really matter to me how you get there,” Green said. “What matters to me is that we get there. I’m not going to sit here and condemn her comments to me or what she did. I fully support what she is doing to reach the end goal because that is what I want to see happen. ”
