Draymond Green compares himself to Magic Johnson with cents to Steph Curry

Draymond Green scored an assistant of his career in the Warriors’ standout victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night, but one of his fifteen cents was the best.

Green sent a pass through several Mavericks defenders to draft longtime teammate Steph Curry in the second quarter.

After the game, Green admired his own pace on his Instagram. He thought the feed was magical, and he compared his vision on the play to Basketball Hall of Famer – and fellow American state Spartan – Magic Johnson.

Green had quite a few games before he fit Johnson’s point of 15 assists (123, to be exact), but the 30-year-old had reason to move on Thursday night. He scored a season-high of 11 points (on a season-best 3-of-5 shootout) amid renewed questions about his output, scoring only his second double-double of the season.

Perhaps the most encouraging part of Green’s night was that he only needed three quarters for his best performance of the season. The veteran did not play a second in the fourth quarter after the Warriors’ second unit pulled the piece away.

Green started at the center on Thursday amid Golden State’s crisis on the pitch injury, offering an encouraging look at how the team can play for the rest of the trip without James Wiseman and Kevon Looney. The versatile 6-foot-6 will not be Magic-like every night, but he has shown he can lead the line for the Warriors in their time of need.
