Dr. Oz jumps into medical mode to help rescue the man who crashed at the airport

Dr. Oz showed that he was not just a TV doctor when he helped a man who collapsed at a New York airport on Monday night.

Dr Mehmet Oz and police performed CPR on a 60-year-old man just after 11pm at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, the Port Authority Police Service said.

The man, who collapsed near a luggage claim, had no pulse and was not breathing, police said. Port Authority official Jeffrey Croissant went to help, called for backup and started CPR. Around the same time, Oz rushed and worked with the officer to perform the life-saving procedure, police said in a statement to NBC New York.

“I carried out CPR with the help of a Newark Port Authority police officer and cleared the man’s airway,” Oz said. tweeted. “Fortunately, there was a defibrillator at the airport that we could use to save his life.”

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey tweeted its thanks to Oz, as well as Croissant and three other officers involved.

The three officers showed up after Croissant asked for help, police said in a statement to NBC New York. They gave the man oxygen and used the defibrillator, police said.

The man started breathing on his own and was stabilized before being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Oz, host of the day program “The Dr. Oz Show” tweeted that the incident Monday night ‘was another important reminder of how important it is to take the time to learn how to do CPR and use a defibrillator.’

CPR, which stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, can double or triple someone’s chances of survival after a cardiac arrest, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

People are told to dial 911 first, but the technique involves squeezing someone’s chest to pump blood.
