The medical editor of CBS4, dr. Dave Hnida, spoke in an interview on CBSN Denver about the reports.
“What we are specifically saying is that two masks can actually be the same as the protection you would get from N-95 masks, which is considered the best mask because there is a complete respirator-type unit,” Hnida said. said.
He said wearing a surgical mask with a cloth mask over it carries an extra layer of protection.
“The reason for that is that you end up filtering more of viral particles, it becomes an obstacle course for the viral particle to enter your nose and throat from the air and then into your lungs.”
But three masks may go too far, as it can interfere with the ability to breathe.
He pointed out that Pres. Joe Biden has been “double-masking” for many months, just like coaches at NFL football games.
‘Even in my own family, if we have outside contact – as limited as it may be – we double down. So the question is, ‘Is it effective?’ The answer is ‘Yes’, and that’s something you might want to consider. ‘
