Donald Trump issued a remission and sentence change to rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black ahead of Joe Biden’s inauguration.
President Trump issued 73 pardons and 70 sentencing changes early Wednesday when he was ready to leave office.
Among the people who were forgiven or commuted were Wayne and Black, whose real names are Dwayne Michael Carter jr. And Bill Kapri is. Both were convicted on weapons charges.
Wayne pleaded guilty in federal district court in December to illegally possessing a loaded, gold-plated .45 caliber pistol while traveling to Florida in a private jet in 2019. The contents of Carter’s bag also contained small amounts of cocaine, ecstasy and oxycodone, according to the U.S. attorney.
Due to a previous conviction in New York in 2009, Carter was banned from owning a firearm. The president forgave him.

“Mr Carter pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon as a result of a conviction more than ten years ago,” the White House said. “Deion Sanders, who … wrote in support of this apology, calls Mr. Wayne a provider for his family, a friend to many, a man of faith, a natural giver to the underprivileged, a waymaker, [and] a game changer. ”
The apology comes months after the five-time Grammy-winning party of his supporters became furious by being nice to Trump before the November election. On Oct. 29, Wayne shared a photo of himself smiling next to Trump after meeting with him about the “Platinum plan” of his administration, designed to create jobs and opportunities in the Black community.
“Just having a great meeting with @realdonaldtrump @potus other than what he has done so far with the criminal reform, the platinum plan will give the community real ownership,” Wayne’s tweet read at the time. “He listened to what we had to say today and assured that he will do and can do it.”

Meanwhile, Kapri, who called the White House a ‘prominent artist and community leader’, had his 46-month sentence upheld. He was convicted of making false statements on a federal document when he tried to buy a firearm.
He was sentenced in 2019 to more than three years in prison for falsifying documents to obtain firearms at an arms store in Miami, Fla. He received a 9 mm pistol, a 0.380 caliber and a semi-automatic Mini Draco weapon. . Authorities said one of the guns was found at the scene of a shooting in Pompano Beach in March, although he was not charged in that case.
Bradford Cohen, who worked with the rappers on their apology, told Fox News he was “happy” for his clients.
“I think President Trump and his administration have been tireless advocates on behalf of the African American community. These apologies are a perfect example of this government following its reforms and commitments. I thank President Trump for his advocacy for the reform of justice. I I is happy for both my clients, “Cohen told us.
It did not take long before people responded on social media to the big news of the duo.
“I’m glad for @ KodakBlack1k! #ItsRight #TrumpPardon #AnotherBrotherWithAStory #BigTings,” wrote one user.
“Trump had nothing to gain, but he still pardoned Lil ‘Wayne and Kodak Black,” someone else wrote.
“trump forgive weezy and kodak black is good,” a third user noticed.
“Trump forgave 140 people on his last day in office. Including Lil Wayne and Kodak Black. This man is a gangster,” added another.
Others, however, were not thrilled to hear that the rappers could avoid their sentences.
“I love it because I wanted Kodak to rot black in jail. I hate everyone who cheers for his release. You are all parasites and you are making me SICK!” wrote a particularly upset user.
“Puppy, I think Lil ‘Wayne’s recommendation paid off,” someone else wrote.
“That’s why Dwayne Carter shocked Trump,” another added.
Fox News reported earlier that Wayne and Black were on a list of 50 to 100 pardons the president planned to issue in the last days of his government. They join other notable figures the president forgave on Wednesday, such as Steve Bannon and former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

Presidential pardon as a final act of a retiring president is somewhat of a tradition in the United States. Barack Obama, for example, has forgiven or granted mercy throughout his two terms in office, many of which came in the last week of his presidency in 2017.
