Donald Glover, Phoebe Bridge-Waller Series for ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ Series

Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge play together in an upcoming Amazon series, based on the 2005 action comedy Mr and Mrs Smith.

Francesca Sloane of Atlanta will serve as showrunner in the series that will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in 2022. Glover and Waller-Bridge (in a voice role) appeared earlier in 2018 Star Wars spinoff Alone together, with the two sharing a cabin like Lando Calrissian and his droid L3-37.

At the BAFTA Awards in 2019, Glover paid tribute to the Fleabag star, who praises the award-winning British series and talks about how they met:

The film from 2005 Mr and Mrs Smith plays Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a bored couple in the suburbs who do not know they are both hired killers.

‘Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and artists in the world. It is truly a dream for us, just like for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature work together as a creative team, ‘said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, in a statement.

Mr and Mrs Smith is an iconic trait, and we can not wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We are delighted to be working with them and with such great partners at New Regency. ”

Salke also shared an Instagram announcement for the series, with Glover and Waller-Bridge:

New Regency and the Wells Street Films of Waller-Bridge will produce the series. New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer said in a statement: ‘After the pleasure of successfully collaborating with the incredibly talented Donald Glover, recently on Guave Island, we all started talking about other projects to do together, and when he came up with the idea of a new version and version of the New Regency movie, Mr and Mrs Smith, we jumped at the chance to get started right away. The addition of Phoebe and her company Wells Street Films as collaborator and co-star elevates everything to a different level and makes the project worthy of becoming a new idea for both new audiences and former fans of the original film. ”
